Universities, R&D Groups and Academic Networks

ICISSP is a unique forum for universities, research groups and research projects to present their research and scientific results, be it by presenting a paper, hosting a tutorial or instructional course or demonstrating its research products in demo sessions, by contributing towards panels and discussions in the event's field of interest or by presenting their project, be it by setting up an exhibition booth, by being profiled in the event's web presence or printed materials or by suggesting keynote speakers or specific thematic sessions.

Special conditions are also available for Research Projects which wish to hold meetings at INSTICC events.

Université de Montréal

The Université de Montréal first opened its doors on January 6th, 1878. At the time, less than a hundred students were admitted to three faculties-theology, law and medicine-in various locations around the city. In 1895, new premises were acquired on Saint Denis St., in the heart of the Latin Quarter, and all of its faculties were moved to one location.

VISION: Video-oriented UWB-based Intelligent Ubiquitous Sensing - Demo of the Video-oriented Intelligent Sensing

Real-time (RT) sensing with enhanced video capabilities is a powerful tool capturing a significant variety of data, thus providing an excellent substrate to build up an accurate context abstraction. Machine capability of creating a good context abstraction will boost several applications. Three-dimensional (3D) video allows the recognition of objects shapes, human gestures and facial expressions, improving human- to-machine interaction. Surveillance systems, empowered by automatic recognition of gestures, will suddenly detect a threat. Facial expressions may reveal the status of elderly or disabled people. Remote driving and decision making process of robots for scientific or rescue expeditions will improve. VISION aims to developing an innovative infrastructure providing RT sensing services, with particular emphasis on 3D video, with mobile and context-aware operation. Hence, it will address the numerous challenges raised by the limitations of current technology for wireless sensor networks.
